Filming history of the Mosaic of St. Nicholas
In 2008 at the Bare Hills Art Festival I met members of The Neboslov ensemble and The ARTery club. They were enthusiastic people undertaking various art projects and I found these people and heir work very interesting and worth of capturing on the film. At the time they had an excellent place to work in, the former Central House of Artists. But soon, as a result of an illegal takeover of the property – which was a usual thing at the time – they had to vacate the place.
Eventually, they were given shelter in the dilapidated crypt of the St. Nicholas Church on the Three Hills. I joined the club, took part in their work and tried to capture their activities on my camera.
In 2011 Nina Kibrik, the leader of the group began her work on the inlaid icon of St. Nicholas for the church which gave them a home. I decided to capture the whole process of making the mosaic on film from the first sketches to the installation of the icon on the front side of the bell tower.
